Our News

In her August 2026 Newsletter, District 7070 Governor Liz Compton talks about her club visits in July,  the urgent request for assistance for families displaced by the northern Ontario wildfires and the immediate and tremendous response by so many clubs in our District  - Rotary Responds. Our District Governor urges us to  welcome prospective members with open hearts, and also on care for the members already sitting beside us as we celebrate August as Membership and New Club Development Month—a topic that is especially close to her heart. DG Liz asks us all to share our Rotary Story—why we joined Rotary and why we stayed. Home Page | Rotary Club of Westlake-Bay VillageAugust is Membership and New Club Development Month, when Rotary Clubs, around the world focus on membership in Rotary. Does your club have a plan? Are you executing your own plan to invite your friends and business associates to join your Rotary Club and keep them engaged?  It’s time. Time to celebrate your Rotary club, your members, and the good you do in your community and around the world. Tell everyone and ask them to join. This year, the presidential message, Unite for Good, emphasizes the importance of solidarity and collaboration. This call to unity encourages members to come together because collective efforts can lead to significant positive change. Throughout August, read inspiring blog posts that tell stories of Rotary members collaborating with others to make lasting impacts. Access valuable resources that will help you strengthen your membership

There are many ways to join in the celebration, but here are a few activities to get you started:

  • Say it loud, say it proud! Let everyone in your social network know that you are a proud member by changing your Twitter and Facebook profile to the I’m a Proud Member I’m a Proud Rotaractor, or I am a Proud Interactor graphic. Copy and save the graphic as your profile picture for August.
  • Exchange ideas. Do you have successful membership strategies that have worked well in your community? Share them on the Membership Best Practices Discussion Group.
  • We Are Rotary. Using the hashtag #WeAreRotary, post photos to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, or Vine of your club members at work in your community or abroad to show how Rotary makes a positive impact in the world.
  • Making a difference. Rotary clubs are known for the high-impact service projects they undertake locally and globally. Share stories about your service projects and how they improve lives on Rotary Showcase. Be sure to follow us on FacebookTwitter, and Instagram to see what Rotary members around the world are doing to celebrate Membership Month.
  • What does Rotary mean to you? Rotary members have pushed polio to the brink of eradication, delivered clean water to those in need, improved their local communities, provided scholarships to the next generation of peacemakers, and continued to do good in the world.

For the fall of 2026, we are staying with our Rotary Leadership Institute (RLI) programming in the virtual format.  Although we all appreciate that videoconference will never replace the personal connection that we get from meeting face-to-face, RLI is a very successful program with overwhelming response and enthusiasm from Rotarians across the District. Rotarians new to Rotary and even those with many years of service benefit from learning how we can create strong clubs with vibrant members who are engaged and committed to Service Above Self.

Rotary Youth Exchange | District 7070Dear Rotary District 7070 Family,

Yes it is true, Rotary Youth Exchange is Rotary's Best Program!

I am sure you have all met some of our outstanding Rotary Youth Exchange Students over the years.  The program involves students immersing themselves in a new culture, new friends, new schooling and service through your Rotary Club.  We have already received 5 student applications for 2027-28 exchanges.

It is time to say you YES to Rotary Youth Exchange ( RYE) at your club.

How do you get a student starting in August 2027?

a.  You need to have 2 Rotary members willing to support the program.

b.  The yearly cost to the club of RYE is $3,500 to $5,000 depending on the cost of club meetings & events.   Only $1,500 is payable in the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The RYE District Committee will provide training for your RYE Committee members, help with marketing materials and support you in recruitment of an outbound student & host families.

I have attached the student recruiting pamphlet as well as the club information pamphlet.

Please contact anyone on the committee to discuss how your club can be part of this amazing program.

The president’s message for 2026-27, Create Lasting Impact, encourages all of us, as people of action, to work together to make a meaningful difference in our communities and around the world. It builds on the ways in which members have strengthened their connections to each other and to their communities to Unite for Good, the 2025-26 message. Now, Create Lasting Impact will harness those connections and inspire our members, participants, and the public to take collective actions that lead to a sustainable difference — globally, locally, and personally. To show the world how members are creating lasting change through Rotary, you can collect information and share stories that demonstrate the impact your club makes through service projects and other work in the community. Another great way to do this is by sharing videos from the series Personal Perspectives: The Value of Rotary.” These short testimonials highlight how Rotary creates positive change around the world and in the lives of our members.
